Tone up with LITTLE Liposuction
We believe there should be an easier way to give your tummy, chin, legs, back, or arms a quick tone up, without having to commit to anything major...which is why we developed our proprietary LITTLE Lipo procedure.
What is LITTLE Liposuction?
Our LITTLE Lipo procedure in Northern Virginia sets us apart from other practitioners, utilizing miniaturized instruments and a highly advanced vibrational technique, making it the perfect treatment for patients looking to slim down in certain areas, reducing up to 80% of excess fat in just one session, and greatly reducing your postoperative recovery period.
LITTLE Lipo is one of the most popular procedures performed at the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery by Dr. Burton Sundin and Dr. Reps Sundin to delicately remove fat cells with minimal recovery. A perfect treatment for patients who want to slim down in certain areas, this advanced technique can reduce up to 80% of excess fat in just one session.
It's just a LITTLE Lipo!
We developed our LITTLE Lipo procedure in Richmond to be a revolutionary way to transform your body without the need for general anesthesia. We are able to offer a range of sedation and anesthesia options, including conscious sedation (commonly called twilight anesthesia), awake local anesthesia, and if desired, general anesthesia.
During your consultation, you and your surgeon will decide the most comfortable, safe, and appropriate option for you. For most patients, LITTLE Lipo is an outpatient procedure that you can return home the very same day and back to work after a long weekend–no long recovery time.
LITTLE Lipo is minimally invasive, performed with tiny incisions and exceptionally small instruments, with a reduced recovery time of about 48-72 hours—so no one even has to know you’ve had it done.
LITTLE Lipo enables us to target problem areas and accomplish our work using only a local tumescent anesthetic and anti-anxiety medication. Because we forego general anesthesia, you’ll be awake and comfortable throughout your procedure and can return home the very same day.

What Can I Expect During A LITTLE Lipo Procedure?
We’ll perform your procedure in one of the serenely comfortable rooms at the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery. LITTLE Lipo is always performed by either Dr. Reps Sundin or Dr. Burton Sundin, both of whom are board certified plastic surgeons with decades of experience designing and performing customized body contouring.
When you arrive for your session, you will be given light oral sedation, before very tiny incisions are made in order to allow access for both local anesthesia and the cannula to be inserted.
A local anesthetic (lidocaine) is combined with saline. This solution, called tumescence, very effectively numbs the area and makes the fat cells easier to remove. (However, we also offer general anesthesia with LITTLE Lipo if the patient prefers.)
Once the treatment area is numbed, the cannula — a very thin, hollow tube — goes to work. The cannula will move back and forth to break up the fat cells, gently vacuuming the broken-up fat away and out of your body, as a vibrational technique gently removes fat cells with minimal trauma for a shortened recovery period.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LITTLE LIPO?
- Results are immediate
- Short recovery period
- Minimally invasive treatment
- Pain is minimal
- A range of choices for anesthesia
- Helps to tighten the skin
How we Use External Radiofrequency to Improve Outcome
One of the most unique elements of LITTLE Lipo is the fact that we use external radiofrequency treatments to reduce swelling, smooth the results, and tighten skin following the procedure, for a shorter recovery period, smaller incisions, and excellent results.
For many patients, LITTLE Lipo works well in combination with other body contouring techniques, including CoolSculpting, UltraShape, TruSculpt, Venus Legacy, fat grafting, and/or skin tightening with J-Plasma.
What Areas Can Be Treated with LITTLE Lipo?
No matter where you’re looking to sculpt and contour, LITTLE Lipo can help. This treatment is best for small volume fat reduction and targeted areas of fat.
This procedure can conveniently:
- Minimize the appearance of love handles, muffin tops, and other fatty bulges around the stomach/hips
- Slim down saddlebags, banana rolls under the buttocks, inner thighs, and hips
- Improve a double chin
- Reduce fat in the upper arms
- Remove lower back fat, flanks, and bra fat
If you have greater volumes of fat, traditional liposuction may work better for you. This is something that Dr. Sundin will discuss with you during your consultation.
What is the Recovery from LITTLE Lipo?
We don’t believe that body contouring should disrupt your daily routine. Because we only use local anesthesia, LITTLE Lipo is a more comfortable experience, with a much shorter recovery period and fewer risks of unwanted side effects than the typical liposuction procedure. With LITTLE Lipo, most patients are back to their lives after a long weekend of recovery.
