Recovery varies by treatment area and procedure extent. LITTLE Liposuction and neck liposuction may also be combined with Renuvion when additional skin tightening is appropriate.

Awake liposuction describes the anesthesia experience, while SmartLipo refers to a specific laser-assisted technology. Your consultation will help determine which technique, or combination of techniques, best fits your anatomy and goals. VASER liposuction is another option. It uses ultrasound energy to loosen fat before removal, which can help in firmer areas like the back or male chest.

LITTLE Liposuction & Awake Liposuction

With LITTLE Lipo®, Dr. Burton and Dr. Reps Sundin use local anesthesia and small entry points to remove targeted fat while you remain awake and comfortable. This in-office approach can help appropriately selected patients avoid general anesthesia and return to light activity sooner.The tradeoff is that LITTLE Lipo treats smaller amounts of fat per session. If you want several large areas done at once, liposuction under general anesthesia at our accredited surgical center is usually the better fit.

Renuvion Skin Tightening

Renuvion J-Plasma uses helium plasma and RF energy to contract tissue beneath the skin after fat removal. Patients comparing energy-assisted options such as SmartLipo can discuss how each technology works and which one is better suited to their skin and treatment area.

Neck Liposuction

Neck liposuction removes localized fat beneath the chin and along the upper neck to create a cleaner jawline and more balanced profile. If loose skin contributes more to your concerns than excess fat, your surgeon may recommend adding Renuvion or considering another neck-contouring option. One option is a MyEllevate neck lift, which tightens the neck through tiny incisions instead of a traditional facelift.

Liposuction With Sedation or General Anesthesia

If you want to treat a larger area, or several areas in one visit, we also offer liposuction with sedation or general anesthesia. Recovery runs a little longer than with LITTLE Lipo, and your surgeon will go over the difference with you at your consultation.





What Makes LITTLE Lipo a Different Kind of Liposuction

Dr. Burton and Dr. Reps Sundin built LITTLE Lipo® around a few changes to the traditional approach:

  • Finer cannulas: very thin instruments go in through tiny incisions, so there’s less trauma to the tissue and smaller marks as you heal
  • No general anesthesia: you stay awake with local anesthesia and light oral sedation
  • Built for precision: it focuses on smaller amounts of fat per session rather than large-volume removal
  • Back on your feet sooner: many patients return to a desk job in about 3 to 5 days

LITTLE Lipo doesn’t tighten loose skin on its own. If that’s part of your goal, Renuvion can be added during the same procedure.

How Liposuction Addresses Areas Diet and Exercise Can't

Liposuction may be a good option when you are close to a stable weight but still notice areas of fat that do not respond to consistent diet and exercise.

You may be a good candidate if:

  • You have localized fat that remains despite healthy habits
  • You want more definition in your abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, arms, back, chest, chin, or neck
  • You want to improve how different areas of your body transition into one another
  • You are close to your preferred weight and able to maintain it
  • You have sufficient skin elasticity for the area being treated
  • You are in good overall health and have realistic expectations
  • You don’t smoke or use nicotine, or you can stop for several weeks before and after surgery
  • You want a treatment plan built around your anatomy rather than one specific device

Liposuction is designed to refine your shape, not produce significant weight loss. It also does not automatically correct loose skin, which is why your consultation will evaluate both fat distribution and skin quality. If loose skin or separated stomach muscles are your main concern, a tummy tuck will usually do more than lipo alone.

What Patients Want to Know About Liposuction

How Much Does Liposuction Typically Cost?

Pricing depends on the areas being treated, the technique used, and whether your procedure is combined with additional contouring. You’ll receive a personalized estimate during your consultation based on the treatment plan recommended for you. As a starting point, LITTLE Lipo under local anesthesia starts at $5,000 per area. With anesthesia, liposuction starts at $7,500, and the abdomen with the front flanks is about $9,500. Prices include surgeon, facility, and anesthesia fees plus your compression garment. Is Liposuction a Weight-Loss Procedure?

No. Liposuction removes localized fat to improve shape and proportion rather than produce significant weight loss. The most noticeable difference is usually visible in your contours and how clothing fits, not the number on the scale.

Will Lipo Flatten My Lower Belly Pooch?

It can, if the pooch is mostly fat. Lipo removes the fat layer under the skin, which often flattens the lower belly. If the pooch is loose skin or separated muscles from pregnancy, lipo won’t fix that on its own, and a tummy tuck is usually the better route.

How Much Does Awake Liposuction Hurt?

Less than most people expect. Tumescent fluid numbs the area and light oral sedation helps you relax, so you’ll mostly notice pressure and movement. Afterward, soreness is usually mild and feels like the day after an intense workout.

Can I Combine Lipo With Other Plastic Surgery Procedures?

Yes. Some patients combine liposuction with a tummy tuck or breast augmentation for a more comprehensive treatment plan. Your surgeon will recommend a combination only when it is appropriate for your goals, health, and recovery needs. The fat removed during lipo can also be used for fat transfer to the breasts, buttocks, or face.

How Long Will My Liposuction Results Last?

The fat cells we remove are eliminated permanently. However, significant weight gain after your procedure can cause remaining fat cells elsewhere to expand, potentially affecting your refined shape. Maintain a reasonably stable weight, and your sculpted contours endure long-term.
